Baltimore Urban Book Festival Kid Zone

The Food Temptress on Pinterest

Are you on Pinterest?  If not, request an invitation. Pinterest lets individuals organize and share images that they find on the internet.  Folks use it, for example, to plan events, create vision boards, and organize their favorite recipe. People can browse pinboards created by others as a fun way to discover new things and follow those who share the same interests. 

I have a food board. As of today, I have 94 pictures pinned to it along with links to most recipes. In addition, I have a cookbook review board as well as books and magazines worth reading. Today, I posted an image for crock-pot cheesecake and a Cuisine Noir Magazine cover (as shown). How awesome is that!?! Check out Pinterest and follow me at Rekaya Gibson

3-minute Advice to a Budding Writer

Suggestions for writers: 

* Keep writing! 
* Write what you love. 
* Join a writing group for networking, critique, and support. 
*Attend conferences/workshops to improve your craft.
* Do your research on the publishing business and book promotions. 

What marketing ideas have worked for you? 
There isn't a book or one single thing that stands out for me. The best advice is to try promoting in a variety of places (independent bookstores, libraries, spas, restaurants, festivals, cruises, hair salons, schools, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) Get the word out about your book everywhere you can and keep it out there, otherwise people will forget about it. Readers need to see the book and/or you everywhere. Keep writing and publishing so that folks will get to know you. Plus, you will see an increase in sells each time you publish a new book. If possible, do at least one book signing at a bookstore, preferably a major chain. Folks tend to believe that you are real author once you do that.

What hasn't worked? 
Book events that don't generate any traffic.
